This crazy quilt comes through the German-American
community in Rochester. It was made as a parlor throw
commemorating the SS. Peter and Paul Deutches Pioneer Fest,
Rochester, NY, October 8, 1883. The quilt contains
commemorative ribbons from the SS. Peter and Paul Union and
the Rochester Liederkrantz. All seams are covered by a
uniform feather stitch. Representational figures in the
quilt include ladies' boots, hearts, and stars. This quilt
merits extensive study for its symbolism and cultural
connections to one of the large immigrant populations
settling and defining Rochester in the late 19th century.
