This finely stitched white work coverlet was made around
1820 based on the style and exquisite workmanship. The
maker is unknown. The history associated with this quilt
places it in upstate New York in recent generations, but
it may have a Connecticut area origin; more historical
investigation needs to be done with this significant piece.
The pattern of trapunto motifs, which includes a center
medallion flower bouquet surrounded by oak leaves, twining
grape vine with fruit and serpentine feathered patterns, is
believed to be unique and original.
