Nagasaki Tamako's Homecoming

In 1994, when it was found that The doll formerly thought to be Miss Aomori was actually Miss Nagasaki, the people of Nagasaki became very excited. The idea was raised that she should come home to Nagasaki for a visit, so that those who remember her could see her once again and so that younger people could learn the story, and all could celebrate the mission of peace and goodwill.

A homecoming committee was set up, and the project received support and interest from many people and organizations, including Nagasaki Junshin Catholic University, Nagasaki Shimbun (newspaper), and the government of Nagasaki prefecture. A delegation made up of Mr. Hirobumi Toyama (friendship doll researcher), Ms. Akiko Yamashita (Nagasaki Shumbin reporter), Ms. Shoko Yamada (Nagasaki Shimbun photographer), and Ms. Keiko Yamasaki (student) visited Rochester in May 2002 to visit Miss Nagasaki and to make arrangements for her homecoming visit. A series of articles in Nagasaki Shimbun has kept the people of Nagasaki up-to-date on the progress of the project.
