Since the initial exchange of friendship dolls in 1927, there have been other
exchanges throughout the years, although they have not attained the scale of the original effort.
The Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute, under Director Michiko Takaoka, supports an ongoing
Japan- U.S. Friendship Doll Campaign.
Their Cultural Center News often
features stories of givers and recipients of dolls, and the program promotes learning about Japanese
life, customs, and culture through the doll exchanges, and
they are actively seeking new participants in the program.
Sidney L.Gulick III, grandson of the originator of the
friendship doll exchange of 1927, and his wife Frances are continuing the family tradition.
Each year, they send several new friendship dolls to schools in Japan.
